The Board & The Bundle What's in the box? Well it doesn't matter really as you are buying a HiS product so you'll know for sure you'll receive anything needed to get this puppy up and running in no time, whatever your intention with the card may be. Yes this puppy is Dual DVI, lovely. Also quite important for some excellent HDTV usage is a 3-way RCA cable. Although I do believe we should drop the analog component connectivity and go for Digital HDMI (way better signal). I would seriously grant our biggest Guru3D.com certified product award to the first graphics card manufacturer that include a DVI to HDMI dongle instead of the 3-way component RCA cable. It can easily be done as DVI-D can be connected to HDMI.

Anyway, you can connect the card to a nice LCD or Plasma screen and you can play HDTV games or playback movies on that big screen. The card itself then, it's quite hard to determine real changes at PCB level over the reference model as the cooler is blocking my view! I can tell you though that HiS is following reference design precisely.

The cooling technology, which is called IceQ, is something we'll discuss in a minute. A ll the same, this is a really fantastic bundle. BTW, we reviewed the game Flatout, you can read that review. The card sports Dual-Link DVI and I can tell you that we tested them up-to a resolution of 1920x1200 (in dual view, that's 3840x1200) which worked perfectly fine and crispy sharp. ITurbo - But it's not. IceQ ice baby. Ehm yes let me drop Vanilla Ice there for a minute. As always, we test temperatures of the graphics cards when they are in idle and 100% at work. In the software bundle we also find the iTurbo overclocking tool as discussed many times already. Basically the idea is this: Push a button and your card is overclocked within HiS defined limits.

After installing just click on the tray icon to startup iTurbo. Now follow me closely. The X1600 XT runs at default at a clock of 587.250MHz and a memory clock of 693.000MHz (x2). This is the first time I was really disappointed by the iTurbo function as the overclock is only a couple of MHz with the core at 600 and the memory at 702 MHz. HiS might as well have left out this function as it really does not make a difference in performance at all. This tool is built for the people that have never managed overclocking before, are unfamiliar with it, or simply do not have the guts to do it, yet now they can overclock in a safe and HiS certified manner. Usually I don't have anything good to say about included overclocking tools as the novice user can seriously damage a card, but this time, well let's just say that HiS did it right and they are one of the very few manufacturers out there that have accomplished this.

The weird thing is, the card can be overclocked so much higher.we'll discuss this in our overcooking overclocking sesssion later on in the review.
